BRÜ HAUS German Restaurant and Craft Beer Pub

Bru HausBRÜ HAUS in West Los Angeles is not exactly a German themed restaurant, but more of a beer driven restaurant for the local party crowd with a solid attempt to serve food tinged with a German theme. That means sausages, sauerkraut and over 25 beers available from Germany, Belgium and the USA. We all like a good beer from time to time, so we decided to check out the ales on offer at this Westside pub.

The restaurant/pub has been open since the summer of 2011, and chef /partner Charly Hwang is extremely passionate about his food, which he believes has to be of decent quality, despite the fact that it really is a beer driven restaurant. I visited on a Tuesday night, which turned out to be Taco Tuesday at the next door restaurant called Cabo Cantina, hence the busy and crowded atmosphere on the block.

I was really expecting some true blood Frauleins dressed in German outfits, but the servers are strictly American, but do a real good job anyway hustling about to bring the beer and food to the tables quickly.
Some of the prime food items are Sweet Potater Tots,Tequila Habanero Chicken Sausage and their special Pretzel. I also tried a beet salad to start with, and followed that with a selection of sausages (small bite style) with three different sauces, including the special home made ketchup. I also got to try some outstanding Egg Plant Sliders that were special that night, and hopefully those will crop up soon on the regular menu.

The happy hour menu also serves small bites such as Buffalo & Sweet Sriracha Cauliflower and Pastrami Egg Rolls. A dessert of bread pudding was a pretty substantial ending to my meal.

Here are the beers we tried; Bruery 5 Golden Ring from America- Belgian Strong Ale; Schonramer Gold from Germany-Pilsner; Ommegang Scythe & Sickle from America-Oatmeal Stout, and Ayinger Brau Weifse from Germany.

Each week they spotlight a different brewery, and I’m slightly disappointed to only see one English Bitter on the beer men, that being the Old Golden Hen. All the beers are priced between $6-11, and the high end ones deserve special mention. They are the Allagash Curiel and Allagash Yakuza from America, the Triple Karmeliet from Belgium, the Stift Engelszeli Gregorius from Austria and the wonderful Delirium Noel from Belgium.
