Instead of a red carpet, there was green grass and blue sky, the perfect setting for the Eco Oscars. Held this year in a Beverly Hills home and garden, producer Debbie Durkin’s annual event featured organic and eco-friendly gifting, live music, great cocktails and tasty Jamaican eats from Coley’s Jamaican Cuisine of North Hollywood.

Academy nominated attendees included producer Reginald Hudlin, (Django Unchained); producer Damon Russell, (Curfew); director Malik Bendjellou Doc winner for Searching for Sugar Man; David Costabile, Lincoln and Suits; and cinematographer Seamus McGarvey,  (Anna Karenina).

The tasty mint and chili cocktails from Agave Underground Tequila ranged from sweet to spicy at the outdoor bar, while inside the hosting home, a bar in the quiet library served Jailers Tennessee Whiskey, smooth and mellow, straight up, or on the rocks. Attendees enjoyed Kefir frozen yogurt, Coley’s second-helping-worthy rice and beans, fresh veggies, and crisp hush-puppies; and gifting galore.

The organic and eco-friendly products displayed included heavenly skin and hair smoothing, Argan Oil, an all natural beauty product from L’Arganium. The argan hand lotion was scented with lavender, and lasted for hours. John Paul Pet Grooming offered up pampered pet kits containing oatmeal based shampoo and cleanser. Minky Couture’s beautiful plush blankets and brilliant scarves were made with organic fabrics; and Hugz boat wraps combined faux fur with stylish sustainable fabric knits to dress up any boot. Kaia’s Juicy Bamboo bio-degradable cleansing products,  O.P.I. Skyfall James Bond Nail Polish Lacquer Collections; Shaklee Get Clean Home Care Kits; and Stefanie G Beverly Hills Fine Cosmetics rounded out a group of stellar, innovative products that any star would be proud to use.

The two day event was a delightful, and organic, way to welcome the 2013 Oscars. It’s time the Academy laid down the green carpet.
