The Hard Rock Café concept has come a long way since the early seventies when the first ever version opened in London in Mayfair on swanky Park Lane. In those days, along with the Playboy Club, it was the place for East End boys to visit when up west. Also in those halcyon days, the walls were adorned with guitars from the likes
of Eric Clapton and Jimmy Hendrix, but now the Hollywood version has similar stuff to impress, but mainly from local based heroes like Slash and Guns & Roses and similar locally based rockers.

Located in the Highland/Hollywood Blvd complex the spot is a large open lively hangout with rock music videos blaring. I am sure that when they go home the hard working staff probably want total silence after working an 8 hour shift at this high energy location. I am not sure what percentage of their business is local, but it is a must place to take out of town visitors.

Cocktails are a big deal here, with tequila and rum brightly colored drinks taking center stage. Margarita madness is highlighted by the Air Mexico sampler of three mini-margaritas. This is a great idea and the drinks are made with AVION Silver Tequila and Cointreau Orange Liqueur. There are a choice of six-wildberry, pomegranate, watermelon, blue curacao, mango or cucumber. Throw in the chips and salsa and you have a good start
to the meal.

The rum cocktail of choice appears to be the HURRICANE, Orange, mango and pineapple Juice infused with Bacardi Superior Rum, Amaretto and Grenadine. This drink is so popular that I believe you keep the tall glass it comes in, no wonder it sells like crazy.

To me the Hard Rock is all about burgers, and the selection here amounts to six different varieties including the ‘Original Legendary Burger’ and the Local Legendary version. The original is a ½ lb Angus Beef that is topped with smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, fried onion ring, lettuce and a vine ripened tomato ($16.95).

The very attractive menu also showcases some pretty impressive looking steaks like the Cowboy Rib Eye ($34.95), a 28 day aged 16-oz bone-in rib eye topped with herb butter and Served with Yukon Gold Mashed potatoes and vegetables. I suppose you could substitute for their famous Savory Artisan Fries. They also feature Grilled Norwegian Salmon that is drizzled with sweet and tender barbecue sauce ($21.95) and a selection of Fajitas-chicken, steak or shrimp.

Let’s not forget the Smokehouse section where the Hickory Smoked Pulled Chicken or Pork ($14.50) are certainly a meal by themselves, and both of them are served on toasted brioche. These Memphis style sandwiches are served with fries, cowboy beans and citrus coleslaw.

Save room for the over the top desserts like the Cheesecake made with Oreo Cookie Pieces ($7.95) soaked in chocolate sauce and with an Oreo cookie crust. If that is not enough then the Chocolate Molten Cake ($7.95) with Ghiradelli caramel sauce and served warm with vanilla ice cream should do the trick.
