Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers: More Yesterdays Than Tomorrow

More Yesterdays Than Tomorrow
(Schoolhouse Records)
Pittsburgh-based Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers are looking deeply into the old rear view on their latest, More Yesterdays Than Tomorrow.
The title track is upbeat mid-tempo, dealing straight ahead with the idea of mortality, while âBurn us Down,â lead by Grusheckyâs harmonica is a up straight bar rocker. âOne Beautiful Nightâ is a sweet ballad about Brill Building classics and âBlood Sweat and Beers,â like âBurn us Down,â is yet another song you can drink and hang with.
âAinât No Grave,â is the best for me among all these, a gospel/rocker with acoustic guitar, slide and harmonica at its base, while âDonât Mourn For Me Like That,â ends the dozen. Again Grushecky is contemplating a heady subject but in a simple sweet way.
Joe Grushecky is from that hard working, simple songwriting east-coast truth teller school, pretty much like N.J.âs favorite son, Bruce SpringsteenâŠwho is among Joe Grusheckyâs friends. More Yesterdays Than Tomorrow is tightly wound, perfectly executed and well-written and even if there are more days past then coming from this songwriter, singer, guitarist his new album is a real good time.
