Songwriter Andrew Reed presents his brand new album, As a Bird of the Air, a solid mix of his unique vocal, synth influence, and a goodly amount of electric guitar.

The short title track begins this baker’s dozen, a floaty synth opener featuring Reed’s high warble, leading into the big Billy Idol-sounding second track, “Strangers.” In the press on this new album, Reed tells of foregoing his acoustic for his “Old Strat and Les Paul Custom,” and one recognizes the heavy power chord influence early on with this second tune, and again on the sing-able, commercial vibe of “Twisted World.”

The slower, big snare snap and bleeding synth of “Memory,” works well in submerging the listener in its deep emotional mix. This showcases some of the best Reed vocals on As a Bird of the Air. The light picking, flumpy bass, and slow roil of “Musical Woman,” with again, another wonderful vocal from Reed, works best for me of all the thirteen here. It’s got just the right mix and match of instruments and showcases a very tight, mature production.

“Talk To Me,’ a new-agey sexy mover and the layered keys ballad “Another Time Another Place” (yet again another strong Reed vocal) end the album before we get a reprise of the opening title track. After working through all Andrew Reed has to offer with As a Bird of the Air, one comes away knowing they have flown through some special tunes.
