The Hyperion Public in Silverlake

Hyperion Public interiorAs you can judge by the name, the Hyperion Public restaurant in Silverlake is on Hyperion Blvd in an area that is fast becoming a trendy dining area. It is billing itself as the community pub and can loosely be described as an American comfort food restaurant. Ambience is just right for the hip and trendy Silverlake crowd, and the décor was designed by actress and interior designer Claire Stansfield. The restaurant was created by three partners who met at their children’s pre school, and who go by the name of MSA Capital Group.

One of the partners is Paddy Aubrey who is the executive chef and who calls his menu ”Unique American.” That means menu items such as crispy buttermilk fried chicken paired with spicy blueberry sauce and bacon slaw which happened to be my favorite item that I tried on my visit. Other unique items on Aubrey’s roster are turkey meatloaf w/cauliflower puree and gourmet burgers served with organic mixed greens or fries.

His take on the mac n’ cheese on offer includes “mac of the moment,” and other dishes of note include Roasted Mushroom Quinoa Salad, Quinoa Bean Burger and Cedar Plank Salmon which is served with French styled lentils. Chicken wings are served with medium, hot or lemon pepper sauce.
Hyperion Public Chicken WingsAppetizers fall into the currently popular style such as Deviled Eggs with a spiced goat cheese filling or the Brussel Sprouts Gratin with creamy pecorino. The pan seared crab Cakes with a spiracha aioli were particularly good and priced at $11, a very competitive price for crab cakes. In fact all the prices are very reasonable, with no entrée priced over $16.

Cocktails are all priced around $12, and the one that I tried was appropriately called the ‘Silver LakeSling’ with Hendricks Gin, Benedictine, Pama, Fresh Lime, Bitters and Soda. What more can be said than that this is the ‘Community Pub by the people for the People.’
