THE SEX FILES: NYC’s NewFest and more
If you’ve been a regular reader of my columns here, The Sex Files and others, you might have seen my forays in the past two years, particularly to the New York Film Festival come the fall in NYC. I cannot say enough about all the cool films I have caught at the screenings or about how wonderful the staff has always been (not to mention how approachable the powers-that-be always are to even lowly scribes such as I). This year I received a pretty cool listing about the festivals’ NewFest running from 9/6th to the 11th. In a partnership with Outfest and the Film Society of Lincoln Center (where the films will be shown as well as at the JCC in the city) and sponsored by HBO, this years’ LGBT film festival includes some outstanding entries you might just want to get out to see.
Featuring an opening night showing of Stacie Passon’s debut and Sundance fave Concussion, closing night featuring Chris Mason Johnson’s Test, two films co-directed by James Franco and the one he produced Kink, a documentary of The Armory in San Fran where I have reported from in the past, this year’s 5 days will prove to be spectacular. Installments from Travis Mathews, Rose Troche and Malgoska Szumowska will also be shown. As Steve Mendelsohn, Co-Chair of NewFest’s Board of Directors says: “It’s our 25th anniversary, and the recent Supreme Court victory over DOMA has everybody excited. The world has changed since 1987 and we are proud that NewFest has played a role in bringing so many important stories to audiences for a quarter of a century.”
There’s also a LGBT short film program that will be shown. Visit www.FilmLinc.com for complete information and tickets.
Speaking of naughty films and proving I’m not overly favoring NYC (much) let me hip you to some other great sexy film festivals that are rolling through towns presently…in the U.S. and abroad.
For a 9/21 “hot one night stand” as they term it, CineKink rolls into Chicago presenting the lineup below in their ‘Best of Cinekink/2013.’ We’ve seen CineKink in NYC and plenty of other places (they will be by your city again, don’t worry). Here’s the link to their info for their foray into the Windy City. This year’s hot one night reveals: 50 Seconds of 50 Shades, Naked Love: Ea’s Garden, Impact, Rift, Ritual, Amber, Krutch, Zucht und Ordnung, Pinecone and the one nightstand bonus film, the psychological drama from writer/director Cheyenne Picardo remedy.
And on the international front…The Sexy Paris International Film Festival announces its two exceptional evenings of screenings in New Latina in the heart of the Marais in Paris in Sept. a little further on in October one can enjoy the spectacular 28th MIX Copenhagen LGBT Film Festival running from Oct. 4th to the 13th as well the Shropshire Rainbow Film Festival featuring a bunch of films to be shown at the venues the Old Markey Hall as well as shorts at the Hive in Shropshrire England.
