Nile Rodgers Presents The Chic Organization: Up All Night
Nile Rodgers Presents The Chic Organization
Up All Night
Opening with the instantly recognizable, flanky rhythm guitar and perfectly placed horn strikes of âLe Chic,â Nile Rodgersâ collection, Up All Night, from his Chic Organization features the artists that the multi-talented Mr. Rodgers wrote, produced and played for.
True, these are all ’70s-influenced tunes, but the instrumentation is perfect. From the super commercial âUpside Downâ Diana Ross hit, the bass mover âEverybody Danceâ from Sister Sledge (thatâs the amazing Bernard Edwards on bass here playing an amazing funk groove), the truly mega âWe Are Familyâ up to Norma Jean Wrightâs acoustic sweeping âSaturday.” Thereâs tons of good stuff here.
The wonderfully funky 12-inch remix of Debbieâs Harryâs rap verses on âBackfireâ shows when a more “modern” artist gets the Chic treatment and works it to her betterment; the decidedly ’80s-sounding âWhyâ from Carly Simon and âI Love My Ladyâ with Johnny Mathis at the helm, shows those moments when things donât work so well.
Sheliaâs âYour Love Is Goodâ is floaty with soft, perfectly placed vocals. âMy Feet Keep Dancingâ and the bells-led lead of âI Want Your Love,â both from Chic, certainly show off Edwardsâ mastery and a live-sounding âChic Cheerâ ends the album.
From Sister Sledge to Diana Ross, others and a whole bunch of Chic, you can find some great funky moments on the sprawling 25-song Up All Night.
