Rush: Clockwork Angels Tour

Clockwork Angels Tour
(TYS, Inc)
The chunky, double punch of keyboard-heavy âSubdivisionsâ into âThe Big Moneyâ opens Rushâs new Clockwork Angels Tour album. Neil Peart plays as many drums at once as he can (at least it sounds like it) on âGrand Designs.” âAnalog Kidâ appears halfway into the first disc and âBravadoâ and instrumental âWhereâs My Thing?â reveal the Canadian trio is on top of their game on their 11th live release.
Disc 2 is another 10 songs, this time nearly all of the Clockwork Angels concept album, Rushâs latest studio release. âCaravanâ opens, Peart pushes with solid straight drumming for âThe Anarchist,â a heavy âCarniesâ boils up and Alex Lifeson gets a nice long solo guitar picking opening at the beginning of âPekeâs Repose (Guitar Solo)/Halo Effect.â
Lifeson picks the opening of Disc 3 with âDreamlineâ into Peartâs percussion solo instrumental, âThe Percussor.â âOlderâ Rush fans will surely take to the middle four songs: âYYZ,â âThe Spirit Of Radio,â âTom Sawyerâ (Lee sounding a little lackluster vocally here) and a â2112â medley. The hallâs big echo can be heard on a soundcheck recording âLimelight.â âMiddletown Dreams,â âThe Passâ and âManhattan Projectâ end these 11.
“Another live album from Rush?,” you cynically query? Yes, I say. And a damn good one at that! Clockwork Angels Tour is pretty much spectacular from start to finish.
