FILM: Dom Hemingway starring Jude Law

Dom Hemingway posterIt may take a second glance to recognize the pompous prisoner with the muscles and sideburns in Richard Shepard’s comic adventure Dom Hemingway is actually heartthrob Jude Law. Hemingway is a safecracker back on the streets of London after finishing up a 12-year stint in the slammer. He’s full of lust for life, regret and long-winded soliloquy’s about his own greatness.

His first priority after getting out (okay, maybe after beating up the bloke who married his wife and indulging in some hookers and blow) is to get the money due him with the help of his partner Dickie (Richard E. Grant). With Hemingway’s hilarious mouth nearly getting them killed at every turn, they set out to collect the money from the menacingly smooth crime boss Mr. Fontaine (Demián Bichir)

To say Hemingway has bad luck would be a gross understatement, and somehow you find yourself rooting for this laughable, lovable delinquent. His daughter, played by Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, however, is not so easily won over, and he’ll need more than witty dialogue to earn her trust. Law’s transformation for this fast-paced, twisty adventure is impressive, making Dom Hemingway an antihero deserving of a sequel.

Dom Hemingway is in select theaters nationwide now.
