Song Spells No. 1: Cedarsmoke

Sea Wolf’s latest release, Song Spells No. 1: Cedarsmoke, can be summed up in one word: beautiful. The album swells and wanes with gorgeous melodies and earnest instrumentation. The arrangements are more stripped-down than the indie folk outfit’s previous releases, and the effect on frontman Alex Brown Church’s music is incredible.

The album was completely funded and released through a Kickstarter campaign, and was digitally released to all of the project’s backers. Church wanted to release an album independently in order to maintain complete creative control over his music.

The standout track from the record is “Bergamot Morning,” where Church’s voice swoons over ethereal keyboard riffs and intoxicating acoustic guitars; the song feels as though it were organically sprung from the earth. You can completely lose yourself in the tracks of Song Spells No. 1: Cedarsmoke.
