THE SEX FILES: Interview with Carl T. of Porn Gatherer

Porn GathererCarl T., owner of Porn Gatherer says his massive listing site “delivers the best and most popular porn sites available today.” The Austrian-based company offers a massive listing like no other you’ve seen before, categorizing many specific types of porn, types of sites (they list cam girl sites, adult toy sellers and sexual social groups to name but a few) and just about any other grouping your naughty little mind can think up. Carl and his team review every site they list, and put additional info from their personal reviewing into the Porn Gatherer listing. Their “Premium” site listings also have links to free content, info about pricing and what makes them worth joining and though there are lots of places listed and reviewed here, Carl works hard to maintain his “Quality over Quantity” ethic. I got more of the skinny on Porn Gatherer and porn on the net in general in my interview below with Carl T.

How do you find the sites to feature on porn gatherer? Do companies come to you to be placed on Porn Gatherer and are you paid from them to feature them?

We have a small team of people searching the net using common search engines, forums, links from other porn sites, etc. Then all those URLs get reviewed and the sites we think are worth reviewing we indeed review and then we put it on our list. Additionally, webmasters may contact us directly if they want to see their site in our directory.

And how do you keep up?! For instance, I see you just added the new category cosplay, how often do you update?

Updates are made all the time. We get the latest content from our premium sites and put them online daily. Also we scrape twitter messages to get fresh pics, videos and sexy messages from all our sites (you can check them if you scroll down on the main site or on every review as long as the site maintains a channel). We try hard to update the reviews on all our sites in all our languages on a daily basis. Mainly we focus on what people like and add and remove sites all the time. If we have a few sites of the same genre, we weigh up if they are worth a separate category. Right now our most popular categories are livecams and amateur porn.

Some of the stuff you feature is blogs, some like Fetlife social sites, some porn tubes and cam sites, and other adult toy companies. Is there anything in the porn world you wouldn’t include?

We respect content producers, so we don’t link to any share or torrent sites.  From the content we basically list everything legal, as long as those websites don’t show any blood, gore, death or similar along with their porn. We want to provide material to just have a good time.

It seems like watching porn on the net is the future of the porn business, but some would say the net killed porn in other ways like the end of big movie productions, too much amateur fare being produced, etc. What is your overall feeling about the net and porn? Is this now just a case of ‘we can’t beat it, we need to join it?’

If people like amateur, give them amateur. If they like cams, give them cams. It’s that easy. I understand that many small sites suffered a lot because of tube sites, but lots of what happens in this business, as with any other where technology is concerned, is just an evolutionary step. Yes, there is a lot of free content out there, but quality sites are still making good money.

In the end the customer is always right. You just can’t tell people what to consume and so yes, you have to adapt. Personally I am a fan of amateur stuff and so our amateur list contains the most links after the tubes/mixed column.

Playing devil’s advocate a bit further, don’t you think some of the fun of looking for porn online is
looking for porn? What I mean is, with your service helping folks to get to where they want to go quicker, do you take the fun out of searching?

The fun is not searching, it’s finding, and with our list it’s easier than ever for porn lovers to do just that. That’s why we are here. We don’t care what genre you are into, we’re sure to have the best site for your needs.

We generally get a lot of positive feedback on our categories. People often check out their favorite category first and then take a glimpse on others, and then they find a new favorite.

Do you see this business really ever reaching its end? It seems new porn sites are created every day.

As you say, there is new porn every day. Porn producers are very creative and so is the amateur community. Therefore I don’t see an end, nor will there ever be one.

Actually, I see a lot of potential in the VR sector, it really could be the next “big thing” after cams and pinboards, if Oculus Rift and similar products gain in popularity
and become cheaper to buy.

What’s in the future for porn gatherer?

We have some ideas of how to make the previews of sites easier and more interesting to people. We have some new sites in our queue, as we always do and of course we are adding new categories all the time. People need to stop by as much as they can to Porn Gatherer.

You can stop by Porn Gatherer by going here.
