Glee Sings the Beatles
(Columbia)
Glee Sings the Beatles is an album where the cast of the FOX television show Glee sings only Beatles songs. This took place during season five of the series, in two parts (episodes one and two).
The album opens with Rachel (Lea Michele) singing āYesterdayā off of the Beatlesā 1965 album,Ā Help!. Artie (Kevin McHale) and Kitty (Becca Tobin), with back-up from the glee club, then sing “Drive my Car” off of The Beatlesā 1956 album,Ā Rubber Soul.
Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) sing an empowered, unique cover of “Got to Get You into My Life,” off of the Beatlesā 1966 album,Ā Revolver, while Artie and Kitty sing “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away,ā off the Beatlesā 1965 album,Ā Help!.
After Blaine announces he wants to marry Kurt, he sings āHelp!,ā while Rachel, Santana (Naya Rivera), and the rest of the girls working at the restaurant sing “A Hard Day’s Night,” off of the Beatlesā 1964 self-titled album. Blaine, Ryder (Blake Jenner), Sam (Chord Overstreet), and Jake (Jacob Artist) perform “I Saw Her Standing There” fromĀ Please Please Me.
With the help of both old and new glee club members, Blaine performs āAll You Need is Loveā to Kurt. Because he sings it when heās proposing to Kurt, the part at the end- āshe loves you, yeah yeah yeahā- is changed to āhe loves you, yeah yeah yeah.ā We then enter part two of the Beatles’ song list.
It begins with Kurt and Rachel singing a piano-laden version of āGet Back,ā followed by Santana and Demi Lovato singing on the acoustic guitar āHere Comes the Sun.ā The Beatlemania continues with Sam singing āSomething,ā while the entire cast sings a beautiful version of āLet it Be.ā Also included are covers of āHey Judeā (with Blaine hitting the high notes at the end) and āSgt. Pepperās Lonely Hearts Club Band.ā
