What I love about Barry Fey’s Backstage Past is that this giant of rock promotion treats us to his insights as much from the rock businessman side of things as he does from a fans perspective. From back in the day when Mr. Fey was booking acts like Jimi Hendrix, John Denver, Jethro Tull and his many tours with the Rolling Stones, the man pulls no punches about his views of concert promoting throughout, all the way up until he retired in ’97. giving his feelings on how it used to be in the music business and how it is now in the business of music.

Barry Fey’s enthusiasm for the music and the bands make his anecdotal remembrances in this fast-paced book fantastic. We get a quick bio of the man but mainly Backstage Past is about music and how this guy promoted acts around the mid west, built confidences between himself, the artists and his audiences and how he put the Red Rock’s Amphitheater in Colorado (where Mr. Fey now makes him home) on the map.

Super fan, Mick Jagger’s buddy, a survivor; I couldn’t say more about the incomparable Mr. Fey. I double-dog dare you to put this book down once you start reading it.
