Some of the most gorgeous music is created by simple elements layered on top of one another to create a rich landscape of sound. The delicate tones of Milo Greene will appeal to fans of folk acts like Fleet Foxes and multi-instrumental, multi-vocal bands like The Swell Season, The Civil Wars, and The Low Anthem.

This quartet features four singers who alternate instruments and vocal duties. The vocals blend perfectly together to create gorgeous harmonies. Even the darkest of lines—such as “all your love is lost on me” in “What’s the Matter”—sound exquisite in this way. Pain and longing are often mined for material, such as in “Don’t You Give Up on Me” and the nearly agoraphobic “1957.”

At the same time, there are glimmers of hope. “Cutty Love” for instance is filled with such optimism, including lyrics like “even if your heart stops, I’ll be there to hold you up.” While “Autumn Tree” reflects upon young love from the perspective of someone older, the images that linger are bittersweet.

For only playing together a couple of years, Milo Greene are a remarkably tight unit. Their brand of folk is effortlessly catchy and beautiful, making anything sound light and enchanting.
