Morcheeba: Head Up High
Morcheeba
Head Up High
(PIAS America)
Having recently released their eighth studio album as a collective, but second since lead vocalist Skye Edwardsâ return, trip hop trio Morcheeba shares an eclectic blend of new songs on Head Up High, a project as varied as ever, but one that still works in their favor. For the uninitiated, Morcheebaâs sound is generally a set made for darkly lit lounges with hookahs in proper place. However, Head Up High can mix well in a laid-back lounge or hipster bar with a young or older crowd. Featuring guest appearances of artists from around the world, the British group shows us that theyâre still relevant nearly 20 years after their 1995 debut, Who Can You Trust?. From Cali rapper Chali 2na (of Jurassic 5) on âFace of Dangerâ to French-Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux on âHypnotizedâ and Texas singer James Petralli (of White Denim) on the stand-out tune, âFinally Found You.â Head Up High is an intoxicating mix of electronica, dubstep, dancehall and influences of rock.
Recommended spins include âGimme Your Love,â âFace of Danger,â “Make Believer,” âFinally Found You.â
