Blondfire: Young Heart
Blondfire
Young Heart
(Tender Tender Rush)
The brother and sister duo, Blondfire, released their sophomore album, Young Heart on February 11th. Bruce and Erica Driscoll are quite the pair, having broken into the Billboard charts last year with their EP, Where the Kids Are.
The siblings have been very busy in the last year, touring with AWOL Nation, Foals, and Surfer Blood plus playing at Lollapalooza, Firefly, and Summerfest. They have developed quite a following, which should drive the success of their current album.
Young Heart includes all the tracks from Where the Kids Are, with some additional goodies. The pair continues their theme of dreamy electronic-pop music with catchy melodies and ethereal vocals from Erica.
The best tracks come during the first half of the album. Opening with the title track, a youthful song that sounds organic rather than contrived. This sets the tone for the rest of the album, which I must say, after a few listens starts to blend together, but thatâs expected. âWavesâ and âWalking with Giantsâ are some of the LPâs high points. In close running is âDear in Your Headlights,â titled appropriately as the whole album sounds doe-eyed and innocent.
The second half of the album adds more guitar infusion introducing a heavier sound, although Ericaâs delicate vocals keep it light. âKitesâ has the making of the next teen existential crisis theme song. This continues until the closing track, âThe Only Ones,â which concludes with the same wistful sound as the opening song.
Young Heart is a worthy effort by Blondfire. If you donât already own Where the Kids Are and you like indie pop, than itâs a must-purchase. But if you already own the EP, just buy a few singles and save your money for their next live show.
