The careless, feel-good harmonious buoyancy on the new album Fly Rasta by Ziggy Marley is a calming sound machine. Take the soothing effects of reggae music and couple it with a soft pop and rock feel and you have the album in a nutshell. “I Don’t Wanna Live on Mars” breezily mocks technological aspects of society and calls for the necessity and comfort of love. The more jagged “You” and “Fly Rasta” both have a more charged feel with bass lines that move with wicked turns and then erupt with the support of beatific background vocals that feature members of the Melody Makers. Ziggy Marley is the oldest son of Rita Marley and the legendary Bob Marley. “Moving Forward” is contemplative, yet brightly positive against adversity while “So Many Rising” is decorated in acoustic guitar and a lullaby swing of drum. Ziggy Marley’s vocals are charismatic as he continues to effortlessly provide the world with moving grooves and uplifting escapades that counteract a world addicted to unnatural speed and the stress that comes along with trying to keep up.
