GRiZ: Good Will Prevail
GRiZ
Good Will Prevail
(All Good Records)
The latest release from the Michigan-born electronic music producer and musician features his brand of future-funk at its best while branching out to include other unique sounds from a variety of collaborators, seamlessly infusing their styles with his own. He teams up with Big Gigantic on “Good Times Roll” to merge his signature saxophone with the combo of powerful bass and high-pitched synth the duo from Boulder, CO, has become known for. On “PS GFY,” Cherub contributes the brash, party-centric lyricism that marks most of the Nashville-based duo’s work, blending nicely with the dubstep power-funk we’ve grown used to on previous records like Say It Loud and Rebel Era. “If There Ever Comes a Day” incorporates the styles of Eli “Paperboy” Reed, a blues musician heavily influenced by gospel, and Louis Futon, another electronic music producer who previously collaborated with Bassnectar. “Driftin’” invites Son Little to slow things down with the blues-soul fusion the NYC-raised musician has cut his teeth on (though he does have prior experience in the realm of hip-hop, having collaborated on numerous occasions with producer RJD2). Good Will Prevail expands on past GRiZ albums in a way that invites listeners to enjoy bass-driven bangers along with tracks that offer a little extra soul.
