THE SEX FILES: Marquis de Sade – 100 Erotic Illustrations

Love him, loathe him, follow his exploits by trying out your own brand of kinkiness on regular occasions, or simply looking at pictures and reading his work with a “Oh no, not me, ever!” one can’t deny the historical significance of the Marquis de Sade. With the term ‘sadism,’ born off his name, even those not-in-the-know of all the Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade was about in his lifetime back in 18th century Paris, kind of get the hint of the man’s proclivities.

Those proclivities are on perfect display in Goliath Books’, Marquis de Sade – 100 Erotic Illustrations. I’ve told you about this Berlin-based publisher before, reviewed plenty a Goliath tome here. They produce art books of the highest quality, tackling often naughty and controversial subjects, with books full of fantastic sketches or photography (or both) and quite detailed text. In this particular book, we get 100 images (sketches) from an amazing array of 4000 pages, depicting those ‘depraved’ acts, as some would call them (and the Marquis was jailed for) of this iconic reprobate’s most delightful imaginings.

And actually, in this particular Goliath release, all we get are the pictures, there is no text here. Maybe, in the end, especially in the kingdom of kinkdom, a picture really is worth a thousand words?

I fully admit, not all (those reading me here or coming upon this work) will be ‘into’ de Sade. He is a specific niche taste, to be sure, and even the most ardent kinkster might blush at some of this stuff. There are a lot of group activities here (the Marquis did like his orgies) and very little vanilla sex, unless grouped with something more than slightly to the left of the usual old ‘in and out.’ But what this man produced is certainly worth historical study, if nothing else. And is pretty damn hot, if you are inclined that way.

Goliath Books’, Marquis de Sade – 100 Erotic Illustrations is available here.
